The Volunteer Center of Erie County, Ohio has been named a certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award by the President's Council on Service and Participation. Modeled after the President's Physical Fitness Awards, the President's Volunteer Service Award is a presidential recognition program for Americans of all ages who contribute a significant amount of time to volunteer service. The Award is given to individuals, families and groups that have demonstrated outstanding civic participation and volunteer service over a twelve month period.
We would like to present this award to your qualifying Erie County volunteers at our annual Lavender Breakfast, (May 6, 2009).
Each eligible volunteer will receive a certificate and a President’s Volunteer Service Award pin.
In order to have the award materials available to present during National Volunteer Week, information on your volunteers is due back to the Volunteer Center by early March 2009. Contact The Volunteer Center at (419) 627-0074 to receive the required forms.

Volunteer Center to nominate yourself and/or a family member for this award.
What activities count for the Award?
To be recognized, service activities should meet national or community needs in the areas of youth achievement, parks and open spaces, healthy communities and public safety/emergency response.
Activities must be unpaid and may not include court-ordered community service.
How many hours do I need to volunteer?
Any individual, family or group can receive Presidential recognition for annual and lifelong commitment to volunteering at home or abroad. The following are the annual eligibility requirements:
Kids (ages up to 14)
Bronze Award…50-74 Hours
Gold Award…. 100 or more hours
Young Adults (ages 15-25)
Silver Award… 175-249 Hours
Gold Award…250 or more hours
Adult (Ages 26 and up)
Bronze Award…100-249 hours
Silver Award…. 250-499 hours
Gold Award…. 500 or more hours
(two or more people)
Bronze Award…200-499 hours
Silver…500-999 hours
Gold Award…. 1,000 or more hours
What do Recipients receive?
Award Recipients receive:
· An official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin
· A personalized letter of achievement
· Letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation
Recipients are eligible to win the award once every 12 months.
President’s Call to Service Award
To qualify for this prestigious award, an individual must have served 4,000 or more hours to date.
