“You’ve got to think about ‘big things’ while you’re doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.” - - Alvin Toffler

Volunteers are needed to serve Erie County Agencies in a wide variety of positions:

Do you like to meet people and help raise funds for worthy causes?  Maybe you would like to work in retail.  Volunteers are needed to work in a local gift shop. Hours are flexible, but the help is needed immediately.

A volunteer is needed to work at an Information Desk T. If you like to meet people and help them get their questions answered, this may be the spot for you.

Volunteers are needed to transport senior citizens to medical appointments. If you like to drive, and know your way around the area you might want to volunteer your services.

Know anything about computers?  Would you like to teach senior citizens how to use one? A volunteer is needed to teach a computer class.

Want to make a difference this summer- families or individuals are needed to deliver hot lunches to homebound senior citizens. Must be available one day per week from 10:30 am to noon. Opportunities available in Sandusky, Huron, Vermilion, Birmingham, or Castalia, Mileage reimbursed.

Want a free meal and a ticket to Cedar Point? 15 volunteers are needed to help with a information fair to be held at Cedar Point September 6, 2008. Those who volunteer will receive a free meal and a ticket to Cedar Point.

Volunteers are needed to be trained to work in an organization’s Disaster Program, locally and potentially beyond Erie and Huron Counties.  Training is necessary before assignments can be made. Contact The Volunteer Center for more information.

Many nursing facilities need friendly volunteers to assist residents on field trips, with crafts, and playing bingo.

Do you like to fish? A volunteer is needed to just “hang out” and teach a child how to fish. This position is not limited to fishing, but could include playing video games, watching sports, or just talking about your days. The time is flexible to fit your schedule.

Several area agencies need some help with maintenance and upkeep. If you have any handyman skills you would like to donate, they would be highly appreciated.

Volunteers are needed to chaperone a youth group on July 12th to the LPGA Jamie Farr Tournament in Toledo.  We will be leaving at 8:00 a.m. and will return back to the golf course at 4:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to assist Junior Achievement of Erie County present their curriculum to Erie County K-12 students in local schools.  They provide a one-hour training session and Junior Achievement curriculum to first-time volunteers. Time commitment would be five to seven hours of classroom presentations plus five to ten hours of preparation time for volunteers.

Teenage volunteer actors are needed to present one-act plays to area youth groups and schools about teen dating violence.  Discussion and/or mentoring will occur after the presentations.  This is a great way to practice your acting and public speaking skills while earning volunteer service hours!

Construction volunteers are an ongoing need for local year-round salvage projects.  Requirements are flexible availability and proficiency with hand and power tools.  Contact The Volunteer Center for an up to date construction schedule.

Other donation needs include:  gently used newer baby cribs, and folding metal chairs and a few 6 – 8 ft. folding tables.

Local food pantries continue to need donations of food. Contact The Volunteer Center for a list of food pantries and help us make a difference in the lives of hungry people in our community.
